I could while away the hours
Conferrin’ with the flowers,
consulting with the rain;
And my head I’d be a scratchin’
While my thoughts are busy hatchin’
If I only had a brain.
Aw, the plight of the beloved scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz is such an endearing character that I love to revisit every fall.
(Do you watch the Wizard of Oz every October too?)
While he longs to overcome his shortcomings, he perseveres in his quest and remains a true friend to all throughout his journey.
He’s not very scary either, is he? No, not at all. He’s so much more of a friendly figure that welcomes all into his (probably not so pleased) farmer’s corn field.
Well that’s the kind of scare crow I want a welcomin’ all who pass by or enter into our lil’ ol’ farm.
Yes, a friendly figure who causes a smile on the gazers’ face as they glance his way.
Cuz in my humble opinion, I think everyone would benefit from a few more chuckles each day to chase the blues away.
Blues you say, whose got the blues today? Well there’s a lyric to another classic song “This Little Light of Mine” that’s important to remember about not letting anything blow our little lights out.
(Oh, please forgive my “corniness”, let me remind you that I do teach 5 year olds all day long.)
So no matter what little troubling or scary thing that seems to come about these days, let’s just choose a little more joy and let our little lights shine like that friendly scarecrow.
And who knows, the more smilin’ and shinin’ might cause a lot more grinnin’ and laughin’!
Now that doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all to me.
Cuz, like “The Scarecrow”, I don’t want to be just a nuffin with my head all full of stuffin’, my heart all full of pain;
I’d rather dance and be merry and life would be a “ding a derry” (lyric from the song that means nothing, just silly and rhymes – I looked it up)…
Yes to me, it’s very plain,
that this is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.
(my scripture mantra that’s gotten me through many a troubling bluesy thought)
So welcome fall, yes welcome all to a little more fun and friendly cheer to lighten up our spirits this time of year.
Let’s close the door on blues and stress
and choose more joy and happiness.
Happy Fall my friends!
