A WINTER SUGAR SCRUB RECIPE
Winter is here and I am loving it! Mmmmm, all of the smells and colors just makes me feel so cozy and warm. Truly I enjoy home even more during the cold and cozy seasons of fall and winter too! I love each room so much more but I have to say that even the bathroom becomes more of a cozy spa like atmosphere during this time of year. Especially when I change out all of my skin care necessities with fall and winter fragrances, I really am a happy girl! Like my Winter Sugar Scrub – Oh man – it is so heavenly!
KEEPING IT SIMPLE IS BEST
I just whip it up so easily and keep it by the bath tub for a really refreshing and exfoliating experience. Then after I rinse off, my skin has this luxurious moisturizing feel. It’s really so easy to make too. My recipe includes a combination of brown sugar, raw sugar, coconut oil, and essential oils! So simple right?
Truly it is. Now let me tell you why “sometimes” simple is best. In fact, it really seems like most of the time simple is a much better way to go. You know, you can buy, buy, buy, and won’t always know exactly what you’re getting. For instance, how many chemicals are you allowing into your home just by the way you shop. It may be easy, but is it best or even safe? Hmmm? However, if you’re ready for a more natural life style starting out slowly really doesn’t take much work.
Think about our grandparents or even great grandparents. So much of what they consumed was grown right in their own yards by themselves. And what they didn’t have, they purchased or traded with neighbors or small local shops for the rest.
DO IT YOURSELF
There is just so much to say for making and creating what you need or even what you want. Talk about satisfying and fun too! This way you always know where the things that you use, put on and in your body, come from. I’m finding that in our world of instant gratification we have definitely lost some of the magic and fun of making things for ourselves.
Like this homemade winter sugar scrub, it really is amazing! It scrubs and exfoliates your skin along with moisturizing it and gosh it sure does smell and looks pretty all the while as well. And guess what? It makes a wonderful gift. Just create a batch of these little jars and include it in a gift basket, or bring it as a sweet gift on it’s own for someone you love as an extra special spa like treat!
ESSENTIAL OILS
All you do is mix some brown sugar and raw sugar together in a bowl. I like both for the different textures that they offer. Raw sugar has larger crystals that provide even more exfoliation and just looks pretty to me. Then you add oh so wonderful extra virgin coconut oil that has so many benefits for our skin and lips.
Then this is where the fun really comes into play. You can add so many different combinations of essential oils to add fragrance and so many more beneficial factors for your skin and body.
I am a bit obsessed with the smells of the warm winter spice combination so that’s the first recipe I make each season. I actually enjoy creating many food recipes with essential oils too like this, this, or this. I love them . The mixture I use for my sugar scrub is cinnamon bark, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger essential oils. I use the Young Living Essential Oils and I’ve been really happy with them.
FOR YOUR OWN SPA TIME OR AS A GIFT
Oh my goodness, it smells so good. It has this warmth and woodsy fragrance that screams winter and stays with me as a beautiful fragrance that I have to say no perfume can match.
But don’t take my word for it, try it out for yourself and see what you think. You could even create your own fragrance combination yourself for any season of the year. Orange and cloves go so well together. Pine and cinnamon do too! Or how about lavender mixed with lemon? Really, you could even play around with different citrus scents for a spring and summer refreshing experience as well. Oh, what about grapefruit?! That would be amazing!
Well I hope I’ve inspired you to make up a little batch of sugar scrub to try for yourself or hopefully as gifts for others too this season.
Happy Winter!
XO Jerri
